Background

Hannam University was founded in 1956 by William A. Linton (the grandfather of current CEO and President of Promega, Bill Linton). Since 2005, the BTC Institute has been partnering with Hannam University in Daejeon, Korea, serving as a model for outreach activities that are then adapted to the Korean educational context. Promega-Hannam BTCI programs feature travelling field trip lab experiences for middle and high school students and have included biotechnology classes on Saturday during the school year and summer sessions related to the nature of scientific investigation in partnership with the Korea Basic Science Institute for pre-college students.

RECENT ACTIVITIES

  • We were pleased to welcome Yeonsook Lim (Director, Promega-Hannam BTCI, Daejeon, Korea) and her son, Sung Chul Park (postdoctoral researcher, Kelly Lab, UW-Madison) to the Promega campus on February 8, 2023.  Their visit included in-depth discussion with BTCI staff, Karin Borgh and Amy Prevost, regarding current programming and continued development of our partnership. They also toured the BTC and Kornberg Center for Research & Development, where they met with Bill Linton and also visited with Promega scientists. We are looking forward to continuing these conversations!
  • In summers 2015 – 2018, Hannam University students joined us for our Core Techniques in Protein and Genetic Engineering course, also touring the Promega campus and enjoying the Madison area.
