Many of our field trips can be combined to create a customized module field trip experience. By selecting multiple field trip programs during a single visit, schools receive a discounted rate on each experience, making it easier and more affordable to provide students with deeper, extended learning. Modular field trips allow students to explore multiple biotechnology topics in one day while maximizing both time and value.

EXAMPLE MODULE EXPERIENCES:

GMO Workflow Module:

  • 5 hours (includes 0.5 hour lunch break)
  • Price: $288 for up to 16 students; $18 for every additional student

In this module, students isolate DNA samples from a selection of corn-based food products using a magnetic purification system. PCR is used to amplify genetically modified corn DNA, which is then analyzed using agarose gel electrophoresis. This module combines: DNA Isolation from Corn-Based Foods and PCR & Agarose Gel Electrophoresis.

Plasmid Isolation and Analysis Workflow Module:

  • 3.5 – 4 hours (includes 0.5 hour lunch break)
  • Price: $288 for up to 16 students; $18 for every additional student

This workflow starts with isolating a plasmid from bacteria, and then characterizing it using restriction enzymes and agarose gel electrophoresis. This module combines: Plasmid DNA Isolation and Restriction Enzyme Digest & Agarose Gel Electrophoresis.

Molecular Cloning Workflow Module:

  • 6 hours (includes 0.5 hour lunch break)
  • Price: $432 for up to 16 students; $27 for every additional student

Simulate the process of creating a genetically modified organism from beginning to end! Build a plasmid containing a luciferase gene and transform that plasmid into bacteria, creating a bioluminescent strain of bacteria! This module combines: Plasmid DNA IsolationRestriction Enzyme Digest & Agarose Gel ElectrophoresisGenetic Transformation & Bioluminescence.
