Summer Science Sessions 2008: Environment!

All "A Celebration of Life" sessions feature hands-on
activities -- in outdoor, classroom, and laboratory settings --
as well as guest speakers and field trips. The cost of each
two-week session per student is $140. Applications will be
accepted until programs are fully enrolled. Enrollment is
limited to 20 students per session, and priority is given to AAEA
students. Scholarships and transportation are available according
to need. Please use the student’s FALL 2008
"grade-to-be-entered" in considering program options. You are
encouraged to enroll early to insure a place for your child!

Please note, although both sessions of
Environment!
will cover similar topics, the curriculum will be
age appropriate. The middle school session will include more
advanced activities in both the classroom and laboratory. Topics
and activities will include:

Identification of environmental
principles and problems
-
Exploration of alternative energy
sources
-
Relating how the health of the
environment impacts human health, on earth and in space
-
Discussing how technology can both
help and harm the environment
-
Describing current projects in
space that relate to helping the environment on earth
-
Learning about historic and
contemporary African American Scientists, Inventors, and Engineers including those who work for NASA
-
Presenting independent inventions to
peers and adults
-
Taking a local Field Trip
I. Grades 3-5: June 16 - 27, 8:30-12:00,
M-F mornings
