An introduction to PCR and RT-PCR technologies customized for individuals or groups.

Offered at BTCI in Madison, Wisconsin
 

 
  TITLE  
 

Introduction to PCR and Reverse-Transcription PCR Technologies
 

 
  DATES  
 

Determined in consultation with Amy Prevost.

Schedule:
Training will consist of modules chosen by the participant. From half day to full day and beyond, depending on need.

 
  COST  
 

$325 per day, per person.
 

 
  CONTENT  
 

Goal:

This practical course is for scientists, teachers, laboratory technicians, researchers and any others who would like to learn more about setting up a PCR or RT-PCR reaction, how to analyze results, how to optimize each reaction and how to troubleshoot problems with the technologies.
(NOTE: These sessions may also be structured to be at an intermediate or advanced level.)

Objectives:

Objectives are determined by working one-on-one with the participant or group of participants. The techniques will be offered according to your individual goals.
 
For example, your day may include:
 
Nucleic Acid Isolation
  • Total RNA isolation from blood (mouse blood is used)
  • DNA isolation from blood or tissue
Nucleic Acid Quantitation
  • By spectrophotometry 
Nucleic Acid Analysis
  • PCR of DNA templates to detect point mutations 
  • RT-PCR of RNA templates to detect specific gene
  • DNA staining and agarose gel electrophoresis

  CANCELLATION  
 
  • If you have registered for a workshop but cannot attend, you may transfer the registration to a colleague within your organization, or you may transfer to another scheduled workshop within 12 months of the original.  There is no charge for transfers.
  • For cancellations made more than two weeks before the start of the workshop, you will be refunded the tuition fee minus a 5% fee.
  • For cancellations made within the two weeks prior to the workshop start date, half the tuition will be refunded.
  • No refunds will be made for non-attendance or withdrawals after the start of each workshop.

Note: BTCI may cancel or postpone any workshop due to unforeseen circumstances. If this occurs, we will provide full tuition reimbursement.  We are not responsible for any related costs, charges, or expenses including imposed penalties by airlines, hotels, or travel agents.
