Cost:

UW-Madison students and special students admitted to the course will enroll through the University registration system and will remit tuition fees directly to the University.
For students who do not wish to receive university credits, a special rate of $1300 is offered. (Documentation of current enrollment in an academic institution is required for confirmation of this special rate.)
For company employees, faculty and all others, the fee is $1600.

For students in categories (2) and (3), registration for those admitted to the course will be confirmed based on the receipt of payment, or guarantee of payment.

For all participants, the fee for each designated category includes: lecture/lab documentation; lab supplies; and, breakfast and lunch at BTCI on scheduled course days.

Participants are responsible for their own lodging, transportation and dinner expenses; a list of suggested hotels and restaurants will be provided.

Requirements:

Eligibility: Graduate students, biotechnology and pharmaceutical industry employees, secondary and post-secondary teachers, with a B.S. in either biology or chemistry and a minimum of one advanced course in molecular biology.
Application: If you are enrolling in the course but do not wish to receive graduate credit through UW-Madison, your enrollment in the course will be verified upon receipt of payment. You do not need to submit a letter of interest.

If you do wish to receive graduate credit through UW-Madison,next, submit a letter of interest, detailing your prior experiences using molecular biology and your learning goals for the week. We generally have more applicants than places in this course and we fill places based on need for content, fit of the course with learning objectives and diversity goals. Based on your application materials, we may recommend a different course.

Enrollment: Course enrollment is limited to 24 participants, with approval for enrollment to be granted by Dr. Karin Borgh, based upon review of application materials. Successful applicants will be informed by May 13th.
PAYMENT for Non-UW Participants: Your fees may be paid by credit card on-line, or by a check to

Goals and Objectives:

Designed as a model partnership between the educational and business communities, this six-day laboratory course offers participants the opportunity to continue their learning and skill development. Its intensive, integrated format combines lectures, hands-on lab exercises and interactive problem-solving sessions. Participants will benefit from the knowledge and expertise of highly qualified scientists-instructors and researchers who represent the worlds of both academia and the private sector. Tapping the talents of invited speakers, evening talks and round table discussions are designed to supplement daytime activities, stimulating dialogue regarding current issues in biotechnology.

Note: Several evening talks will be presented by invited speakers regarding historical perspectives and current issues related to course topics.

Cancellation

If you have registered for a workshop but cannot attend, you may transfer the registration to a colleague within your organization, or you may transfer to another scheduled workshop within 12 months of the original. There is no charge for transfers.
For cancellations made more than two weeks before the start of the workshop, you will be refunded the tuition fee minus a 5% fee.
For cancellations made within the two weeks prior to the workshop start date, half the tuition will be refunded.
No refunds will be made for non-attendance or withdrawals after the start of each workshop.

Note: BTCI may cancel or postpone any workshop due to unforeseen circumstances. If this occurs, we will provide full tuition reimbursement. We are not responsible for any related costs, charges, or expenses including imposed penalties by airlines, hotels, or travel agents.
